Etape Caledonia Pitlochry – May 2012

Up at 4.30am today to prep a vat of porridge for our many Etape Caledonia 2012 competitors. I managed to get down to the start line to see them off at 6.30am. 5000 riders cover 80 miles around Pitlochry and Highland Perthshire. The winner should be back in Pitlochry around 10am! I’ll let you do the maths, but that seems quite quick. Rather them than me….

The start of the big race - 6.30 am

Watch a short video of the Etape Caledonia 2012 start on ourTorrdarach Facebook Page

As well as the main event there is loads of great cycling related stuff going on in Pitlochry and all over Highland Perthshire. For information on the very successful Highland Perthshire Cycling Festival which runs alongside the Etape please click here.

The 2013 Etape Caledonia entries will well out fast when the race is officially announced in a few days. If you are interested in slogging your guts on a bike around Pitlochry next year, get your application in fast. Here is the website you need – Etape Caledonia

Aberfeldy Gallery – Spring Exhibition – May 2012

One of our favourite art galleries, The Aberfeldy Gallery, is getting ready for the Spring exhibition. George Grant, Rowena Laing and Lin Pattullo will be displaying work between May 5th and June 20th. There should be some interesting paintings to see.

The Aberfeldy Gallery is about 25 minutes from Pitlochry, heading towards Loch Tay.

The Enchanted Forest – Pitlochry Explorers’ Garden

The Enchanted Forest is an impressive sound and light show on in Pitlochry during the month of October.  This year’s show has relocated from its previous home in Faskally Woods, to the Explorers’ Garden behind the Pitlochry Festival Theatre.  The relocation of the show was the inspiration for this year’s theme ‘Transitions’.

Dress up warm!  We went last night and it was a bit chilly in Pitlochry – get yourself a mulled wine on the way in.  Tasty.  It takes about an hour to walk around the network of paths.  Here are a few photos of the EnchantedForest.  Lots more on our Facebook page –  https://www.facebook.com/Torrdarach.

Tickets are available at the Pitlochry Enchanted Forest website at http://www.enchantedforest.org.uk/.  Have fun.

Rally of Scotland 2011 – near Pitlochry

The Rally of Scotland is the penultimate round of the high-profile Intercontinental Rally Challenge. A number of the stages have takenplace in Highland Perthshire and on Sunday 9th October there was a lengthy stage through the forest above Loch Tummel and the Queen’s View.  As Loch Tummel is only a few miles from our Pitlochry B&B we decided to spectate at our first rally!

As it turns out, spectating at a rally consists of standing around in the cold for quite a while waiting for the odd rally car to blast past in a matter of seconds. I have to admit, however, that the bursts of action are probably worth the wait.  As you can see from the images below I did not master the art of high speed motorsport photography!

I have also uploaded a video to the Torrdarach House, Piltochry B&B  youtube channel.  Equally amateurish.  For more detailed information on the Rally of Scotland click through to their website at http://www.msaevents.co.uk/rallyofscotland/home.php

You can view a map of the Pitlochry/Loch Tummel rally here – http://www.msaevents.co.uk/images/content/Errochty_web.pdf
