A new car park in Pitlochry – March 2012

We now have a more spacious car park at Torrdarach House with the addition of two new spaces…..the excitement never ends…..

Some fairly serious kit was involved in excavating and laying the two new spaces.  The whole of the lower drive was also scraped flat again and covered in fresh gravel.

New breakfast room – FINISHED! – March 2012

The construction of the new breakfast room extension went well and is now complete. Hurray! We fitted the oak floor last week and cleaned and furnished the room this weekend. The malt cupboard, which is now the entrance to the new breakfast room, has been relocated to new shelving on the other side of the fireplace in the lounge.

The new breakfast room has some great views into the garden and over Pitlochry.  Difficult to photograph, but the snaps below should give you some idea of what we have done.  Professional photos will follow later in the year.

New floor required for the Room 3 en-suite – Feb 2012

A new floor was needed in the en-suite shower room for Room 3.  It seemed like every pipe in Pitlochry ran under this floor!

Has Spring come to Pitlochry? – Jan 2012

On a wander through the garden today taking photos of the new extension I noticed our first snowdrops of 2012.  Is this a sign of an early Spring in Pitlochry…….I hope so!

New breakfast room – the first 8 days! – Jan 2012

We have had an incredibly productive first 8 days building the new breakfast room extension.

From starting to dig foundations to wind and water tight in less than two weeks! Let’s hope things continue this smoothly.

Here is an image gallery of the job in progress. Click on the thumbnails for large images.

New breakfast room extension at Torrdarach House – Jan 2012

Planning permission came through before Christmas and work starts tomorrow – our new south-east facing breakfast room.

We have already done some serious pruning of two giant rhododendrons so the new building will have a clear view down into the woods.

I have attached some before and after photos of the rhoddy removal and two drawings of the new extension.  Should all be done in about six weeks time. Exciting.

Roe deer at New Year in Pitlochry

Despite the poor weather in Pitlochry over the New Year period, our B&B guests enjoyed quite a show from the local Pitlochry wildlife. Red squirrels running riot at the feeders kept most of our guests happy, but a lucky few were treated to a breakfast time visit from some small deer (Roe deer I think). Pretty bold little chaps to make it so far down into town.

Torrdarach House – year one accolades (Jan 2012)

It has been fun filled first season for us at Torrdarach House.  We have greatly enjoyed living in Pitlochry and running Torrdarach House as a Bed and Breakfast.  We love what we do here and hopefully it shows. Our customer feedback, both verbally and on social media sites such as Tripadvisor, has been encouraging. We are delighted you are enjoying Torrdarach House as much as us.

We are also very pleased that the influential guide books and tourism organisations seem to like the place as well. We have managed to gain entries in all of our favourite independent guides for 2012.   As follows:

Visit Scotland has awarded us the prestigious 4 Star GOLD award -

“ The Gold award recognises serviced accommodation businesses which consistently achieve the highest levels of excellence within their VisitScotland star grading. Businesses achieving the award will excel in the areas of customer care and hospitality…”

The Good Hotel Guide is one of the finest independent hotel and B&B guides in the country. It is a pleasure to be included once again.

Scotland the Best, written by Pete Irvine, has included us in the 2012 guide. Delighted. We feature in three places – ‘Best Hotels in Perthshire and Tayside’, ‘Hotels That Welcome Kids’, and best of all we made it into the shortlist of 15 under ‘Scotland’s Great Guest Houses’. If you don’t have this guide to Scotland you should get it. It is more than a little different to the rest and by far the best.

Alistair Sawday’s Hotel Guide – We are delighted to have been invited into the 2012 guide alongside some excellent Scottish hotels and B&Bs.  http://www.sawdays.co.uk/search/display.php?PlaceID=pl100769&affID=pp105455

Pitlochry bothy refurb – week 4, Dec 2011

Some good progress was made in the week before Christmas.  Despite quite a lot of snowfall the temperature warmed up considerably and the new concrete floor and tanking system has dried out nicely.  The joiner has now started work on framing out the interior including a structural stud wall to give additional support to the roof.  The leadwork has also been completed under the coping stones at the top of the roof and the weatherproof, breathable paper has been laid on the roof.  A few hundred slates, a door and some windows and we will be watertight! Next update will be mid January 2012.
